UofCanada Egypt campus brings D2L onboard

Global learning technology provider D2L is collaborating with Canadian universities in Egypt to create a “more unified and holistic learning experience”.
The Universities of Canada international branch campus – hosting the University of Prince Edward Island and Ryerson University in The New Administrative Capital 35 kilometres east of Cairo – will utilise D2L Brightspace as its learning platform.
“We needed a robust, flexible and efficient system that could support all stakeholders, and seamless integration is a significant part of that – but our previous solution was deficient in this area,” said Mohamed Fathy, director of information technology, at UofCanada.
Brightspace integrates with UofCanada’s Student Information System, enabling the IT team to “bring all the tools required to support learners together in one place”, Fathy continued.
“This, coupled with Brightspace’s valuable backend and frontend features, has had an extremely positive impact on the overall learning experience at UofCanada, and will support the growth of our community.”
VP EMEA for D2L Stewart Watts said the company was delighted to partner with UofCanada.

Advanced features within D2L Brightspace learning management system, such as the mobile learning aspect Brightspace Pulse, aim to create “a compelling and efficient learning environment”.
Providers suggested to The PIE Review recently that the pandemic has meant more people have been engaging online, more often.
The Brightspace platform will allow learners to plan their week via visuals in order to track upcoming assignments, access course content, stay on top of notifications for new discussion posts, be notified of upcoming quizzes, access grades, and view their course activity feed.
Writing in The PIE in 2021, Watts said that some institutions will “certainly benefit” by expanding their online learning capabilities and offer more adaptable course structures for their international student base.
“Today, successful online programs will be the ones that allow students to take charge of their own learning journey and give them the freedom to shape their courses,” he noted.
