K12: Nord Anglia adds second school in Spain

Nord Anglia Education has announced a school in Spain will join the international schools organisation as its 79th member.

Hamelin-Laie International School in Barcelona is the organisation’s second school in Spain.

The school, which teaches 1,300 students from 40 nationalities, and Nord Anglia “share the same educational philosophy of wanting to help our students to achieve more than they ever imagined”, said Andrew Fitzmaurice, chief executive officer of Nord Anglia Education.

“We’re proud that Hamelin-Laie has chosen to join Nord Anglia and excited by the prospect of what we can achieve together for our students,” he added.

The Hamelin-Laie students will join 70,000 other Nord Anglia students worldwide to access learning opportunities, via Nord Anglia’s tech-enabled learning platform Global Campus.

“We wanted to become part of the Nord Anglia family of schools because of the immense opportunities it offers our students and colleagues,” Sas Pont, founder of Hamelin-Laie International School, said.

“It offers our students and colleagues [immense opportunities]”

“Everyone at our school is delighted by today’s news and what it means for our school community.”

Enrolment into international school groups has grown by 70% in the past five years, ISC Research calculated earlier this year.

Nord Anglia is one of five leading school groups identified by the intelligence company, along with Maple Bear Global Schools Ltd, Beaconhouse Group, Grupo SEB and The City School.

The private school offers the Spanish national curriculum up to high school in English, Spanish, and Catalan, and for the final two years the National Bachillerato — the Spanish national curriculum – and the IB diploma.

Hamelin-Laie, founded in 1989, is also the first school in the country to teach Mandarin Chinese, and in 2019, the school officially became a Confucius Institute classroom.

Nord Anglia continues to grow in size, following the 2021 acquisition of three former Oxford International Education Group schools and continued expansion in China.
