The Australian Trade and Investment Commission has announced an online employability hub to help prepare international students for the global jobs market.

Students studying with Australian provider will be able to avail of location-specific employability information and tools.

Features in the hub include the previously announced Work Readiness microcredential, designed in partnership with Successful Graduate, an Industry Experience Program, bringing students around the world with others in Australia to work in small teams with employers on real-world industry projects, and information on volunteer and industry experience.

The volunteering program will allow international students to “explore a range of ways to improve their during-study and post-study employment prospects”, Austrade added.

“The new employability hub is helping students connect to the skills… needed to achieve their professional goals”

“By providing a range of work-related resources in one location, in a simplified easy-to-follow format, the new employability hub is helping students connect to the skills, courses and opportunities they needed to achieve their personal and professional goals,” said head of International Education Centre of Excellence at Austrade, Melissa Banks.

Other guidance the digital hub includes around work rights and protection laws, in addition to advice and information on seeking employment for before and after studies in Australia.

“Recent sector disruption has resulted in rapid enhancements and innovation in Australia’s digital services for students, including in education and training delivery,” Banks added.

The employability hub is one of the new features for the Study Australia website being developed under the digital education hub initiative, Austrade added.

Austrade International Education special project lead Eliza Chui expanded on the agency’s plans to rebuild the sector at the recent English Australia conference.

The government body is also working on an upcoming partner hub providing resources for education agents and Australian education provider representatives.

In 2020, StudyPerth launched a Student Hub focusing on students’ wellness and wellbeing, as well as employability and entrepreneurship.
