In more UK acquisition news, a well known home tuition provider, IH InTuition Languages, has been acquired by Hong Kong-based Providentia Education.

IH InTuition Languages was founded in 1990 by Norman Renshaw and was the first home tuition provider to be accredited by the British Council.

With a network of teachers around the UK and in cities in the US and Ireland teaching English in their own home, the London-based company built up a reputation as a market leader for “homestay” immersion learning.

New owner, Providentia Education, currently operates Boundary Oak School in Hampshire, UK, Sparrow Soccer School in Hong Kong and Sparrow Early Learning in Australia.

Renshaw – who will stay on as non-executive director for a transitionary period – spoke of a shared commitment to personalised learning between both companies and the chance to use new capital to grow the business.

Development of an online platform and entry into the China market are now both on the cards.

“We are delighted to have found an ideal match in Providentia, both in terms of a shared vision for the future of personalised language training and the importance of a focus on the highest-quality educational outcomes,” said Renshaw.

“InTuition now has significant backing to further develop the InTuition brand, developing new products and reaching new markets with Providentia’s established expertise.”

IH InTuition Languages will continue to operate under its own brand (maintaining its International House affiliation, which happened in 1996) from its central London location.

Andrew Barnsley, Managing Partner at Adam Street, advised the shareholders of InTuition on the sale of the business.
