ICEF sees opportunity in central Asia

Convinced of the potential of the central Asian region, ICEF has just completed its first Central Asia Focus event, a workshop that enabled educators to meet with 83 education agents from the region.

The agents attending represented Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, and Tajikistan.

Markus Badde, CEO of ICEF, explained that his company had decided to expand its activities in this region because the college-aged population will expand considerably over the decade.

“In Kazakhstan, the government hopes that by 2020, at least 20% of students, either via scholarship or self-funding, will spend at least one academic semester abroad,” he said.

“Such growth invites international educators worldwide to expand their reach and enter new markets.”

Local education agents were pleased to have a chance to meet with education institutions from 19 countries worldwide.

“I’d like to express my deepest gratitude for organising [this] workshop in Almaty,” commented Zhanna Mendybayeva, executive director of KAEA – Kazakhstan Association of Educational Agents.

The event attracted quite a few “first-timers” who had not attended a workshop before to speak with education institutions about representing them. ICEF has announced it will organise another Central Asia Focus event again next year.
