Coursera moves into corporate online training

Online MOOC provider, Coursera, has launched an enterprise platform, offering courses to companies to meet employee training needs.

Coursera for Business, which is focused on workforce development, marks Coursera’s entry into the corporate online learning market.

Rick Levin, CEO, said the move is a way to scale the impact of the platform and its university partners.

“With Coursera for Business, we’re leveraging our success in supporting learning goals at scale to meet organisational objectives and to help businesses attract and retain top talent,” he said.

“We’ve always known that many of our learners are housed within companies”

L’Oréal, Boston Consulting Group and Axis Bank are among the companies that have already partnered with the platform.

Since its inception in 2012, Coursera has grown to over 21 million registered users worldwide and provides 1,400 courses from 145 university partners.

This new arm of the online learning platform offers custom learning programmes in fields including business and technology. Like traditional Coursera learners, employees can work towards a Specialization (a curated mix of individual courses) or an accredited degree.

In a blog post, Levin said the development was inspired by the overwhelming popularity to use Coursera courses to skill up.

“We’ve always known that many of our learners are housed within companies, and that many of you are using Coursera to build skills relevant to your jobs,” he wrote. “Over the past four years, Coursera Certificates have become the second most-cited credential on LinkedIn.”

The platform will provide its business partners with centralised programme management and progress tracking analytics to measure the impact of development programmes.
