Rebrand for ELT school in Cyprus, backed by UK MD

An English language school in Cyprus has rebranded as English in Cyprus and announced a new co-owner, who is a veteran of the UK’s English language teaching industry.

Stephan Roussounis, who was managing director of CEG’s Stafford House International for seven years, believes there is huge potential for Cyprus to emulate Malta’s success in offering a Mediterranean destination for study and travel.

He is joining English in Cyprus, a school which was previously trading as Malvern House International, which in fact he helped launch 10 years ago.

“I have watched from a distance and seen the market develop, with increasing interest from around the world,” said Roussounis, who has Cypriot origins himself.

“The new brand will allow us to position ourselves at the forefront of agents minds when considering an exciting new destination to add to their portfolios.”

Roussounis told The PIE News that the school is already popular with students from Russia, France and Italy, “and we expect to grow throughout Europe, the Middle East and Latin America”.

As a holiday destination, Cyprus – a British colony until 1960 –  has many direct flights to the island and has ambitions to boost its profile as an ELT destination.

“We have an island 30 times the size of Malta, with great flight connections and a school with 10 years of experience,” said Roussounis, who added that feedback from agents about his new position leading sales and marketing has been “great so far”.

Co-owner Yiota Kontoloucas said, “our partnership with Malvern House International came to a natural end, and we had the exciting opportunity to work with Stephan once again”.

“In many ways nothing about our product or location has changed, what we have now is the opportunity to put our school firmly on the map by focusing our efforts on promoting Cyprus as a destination.”
