UAE showcases HE offering to attract Chinese students
A delegation of UAE-based international education and political leaders attended the China International Education Exhibition Tour (CIEET) in Beijing earlier this month as part of an initiative to attract Chinese students to their institutions.
The group, led by Dubai’s Knowledge and Human Development (KHDA), included representatives from Dubai Knowledge Park and Dubai International Academics, the Dubai Department of Economics and Tourism (DET) and Dubai Chambers.
The visit shone a spotlight on opportunities for Chinese students interested in pursuing higher education from Dubai’s international universities, with representatives from top institutions such as Murdoch University Dubai in attendance.

The university’s general manager Mark Brown said that the UAE already has a significant Chinese population of over 40,000, with many initially moving to the Emirates for business opportunities or work purposes.
“Now we see a growing number of Chinese students expressing interest in studying in the UAE as an alternative to the traditional study destinations like Australia, the UK, Canada, and the US,” he said.
“Many are attracted by the UAE’s reputation for safety and comfortable lifestyle, entrepreneurship and innovation, cultural diversity and multiculturalism, and work and career opportunities, as well as the ability to earn an internationally recognised degree in one of the world’s most dynamic cities.”
With the expo visit being the university’s second with the KHDA Study Dubai roadshow, Brown explained that the trip reinforces its commitment to creating new opportunities for students from China to explore globally relevant degrees and career pathways.
“Australia and China have a long history of educational collaboration, so as an Australian university with a strong focus on transnational education and a world-class campus in Dubai, we want to further enhance that spirit of collaboration while highlighting all of the phenomenal qualities of international education in Dubai,” he said.
“Chinese students also value quality, innovation, and future career opportunities, and Dubai delivers on all three.”
