The PIEoneer Awards 2025 shortlist revealed

Known as ‘The Oscars of international education’, The PIEoneer Awards 2025 will be held on Friday September 5, bringing together the best and brightest in the sector.

A panel of expert judges whittled down hundreds of entries to just 148 outstanding finalists across 22 categories, while the surprise winner of a 23rd category – Outstanding contribution to the industry – will be revealed on the night.

Popular categories such as the flagship PIEoneer of the year award return for another year, as does the Charlene Allen award for inspirational leadership, which was introduced in 2024 to honour the memory of the first female BUILA chair Charlene Allen – with the British Council’s Jacqui Jenkins being named the inaugural winner.

Meanwhile, one of the new categories for this year’s ceremony is the Secondary school international innovation award, reflecting the enduring importance of the K-12 sector to international education and the pioneering work demonstrated in this field.

The winners at the ninth annual PIEoneer Awards’ will be crowned during a glitzy ceremony at Central London’s historic Guildhall, where guests will include leading figures in the international education sector.

The PIE’s co-founder and COO Clare Gossage said it had been “incredibly challenging” for the shortlisting judges to select the finalists for this year’s awards.

“The quality of entries gets stronger each year, and this year was no exception,” she said. “Each and every one of the shortlisted entries for this year’s awards is exceptional, demonstrating significant innovation and a passion for education.”

“After another whirlwind year in which our sector has faced headwinds such as immigration restrictions, political hostility and myriad other challenges, The PIEoneer Awards 2025 provide an opportunity for us all to reflect on the incredible work international education professionals achieved last year,” she added.

“At a time when certain political figures would seek to divide us, this event offers the perfect opportunity to share new ideas and celebrate our wins. We hope to see you there!”
