PIE staffer scoops award for contribution to international education
Hannah Merchant, who joined The PIE in August, was honoured at the University of Liverpool’s Alumni Awards on September 26 for her work in the sector and advocacy work furthering diversity, equality and inclusion.
Having graduated from the University of Liverpool in 2022, before joining The PIE she worked with Universities UK International (UUKi) as global engagement and project officer, where she led global research delegations with vice-chancellors to help strengthen partnerships around the world. The University Of Liverpool noted that her work with UUKi “played a key role in rebuilding relationships post-Brexit and following the UK’s reassociation with Horizon Europe”.
In her own time, she mentors with IntoUniversity, volunteers with Refugee Community and has previously volunteered with Refugee Women Connect. She has also contributed to humanitarian efforts with the British Red Cross, including at Grenfell Tower.
Hannah said: “This award inspires me to continue uplifting others, particularly those from underrepresented backgrounds, by mentoring young people through the charity IntoUniversity and volunteering locally to support vulnerable communities.
“It serves as a powerful reminder that the doors opened for me must be held open for those who follow.”
