Carlos Díez de la Lastra, CEO of Les Roches
Describe yourself in three words or phrases.
In pursuit of a shared purpose. Guided by collective impact. Focused on meaningful contribution.
What do you like most about your job?
The opportunity to contribute to the growth and development of others.
Describe a project or initiative you’re currently working on that excites you.
The “Care4Others” project, through which we strengthen the hospitality essence within the DNA of all our campuses, instilling in every student the genuine value of caring for others with generosity.
What’s a piece of work you’re proud of – and what did it teach you?
The growth of Les Roches through innovation and expansion. It taught me that results are not something you chase; they come naturally when you pursue a purpose you identify with and that creates real value for the client.
What’s a small daily habit that helps you in your work?
Taking a few minutes before each meeting to reflect in advance on the expectations of those attending.
What’s one change you’d like to see in your sector over the next few years?
That society rediscovers the crucial importance, especially at this moment, of education in human relations and hospitality – and that interest in studying hospitality rises again in both public and private universities.
What idea, book, podcast or conversation has stayed with you recently?
The book Leaders Eat Last. I believe it perfectly defines the leadership style that leads to collective success.
What’s one piece of advice you’d give to someone starting out in this field?
Focus more on how to create greater service value for others through your work than on achieving positions or earning money. The latter inevitably follows when you apply the former.
