BUILA appointed as Adviser to the Education Sector Action Group (ESAG)

BUILA is pleased to announce its appointment as an Adviser to the UK Government's Education Sector Action Group (ESAG), strengthening the Association's role in shaping the future of international education policy and ensuring the practitioner voice is represented at the highest level.

Chaired by Ministers, ESAG brings together government, industry and representatives from across the education sector to provide strategic oversight of the delivery of the UK's International Education Strategy 2026. The group will oversee the development of sector action plans designed to support the Strategy's ambitions to strengthen the UK's global education offer, sustainably recruit international students, and grow UK education exports to £40 billion per year by 2030.

Following discussions with the Department for Business and Trade (DBT) and the Department for Education (DfE), BUILA has been invited to participate as an Adviser to ESAG. In this role, BUILA will contribute specialist expertise and sector insight, working alongside the higher education core members to help develop and deliver sector action plans, provide advice on emerging challenges and opportunities, and support the implementation of the International Education Strategy.

As an Adviser, BUILA will be invited to attend relevant ESAG meetings where higher education expertise and practitioner perspectives can inform discussions. The Association will also work collaboratively with the sector's core representatives to ensure the experiences and priorities of international education professionals across UK universities help shape future policy and delivery.

BUILA will nominate a senior representative to act as its official point of contact with ESAG and will provide regular updates to members as the work of the group develops.

This appointment reflects BUILA's continued commitment to representing the interests of its members, contributing evidence and expertise to national policy discussions, and supporting the sustainable growth and international competitiveness of UK higher education.
