High schools: Amerigo and UTP join forces

Amerigo Education has partnered with US high school specialist University Track Preparation in a bid to become the leader in international high school student services and recruitment across North America.

As part of the deal, Amerigo – which provides international students at “premier” North American high schools with a “holistic and supportive approach that emphasises excellent academic outcomes” – will increase its programming to 13 school partnerships across the continent.

“Amerigo and UTP have been friendly competitors for many years”

It is hoped that the partnership will secure Amerigo and UTP’s place as the collective North American leader in international high school student services and recruitment.

“Amerigo and UTP have been friendly competitors for many years, and both organisations have become recognised by overseas families and the study abroad industry as the top two destinations for high school students seeking to study in the US,” said Craig Pines, Amerigo chief executive officer.

“Through operating in the same space, we’ve come to know and respect the UTP team, and when the opportunity arose to bring our organisations together, it was an easy decision for both of us.

“UTP’s student-focused mission, purpose and values align with Amerigo’s.”

Pines said that Amerigo and UTP are dedicated to the success of students through providing top-tier academics, strong English language learning and a demonstrated track record of placing students in top universities.

“We are truly excited and feel fortunate to welcome UTP into the Amerigo family,” Pines added.

The partnership will allow Amerigo to provide students with additional high school options in high-demand locations, including New York and California.

It will also add homestay options and shorter duration exchange programs in select markets to complement its boarding program.

“Like UTP, Amerigo understands that true university preparation for international high school students is dependent upon supporting every aspect of the student’s experience,” said John McDonough, president and CEO of UTP.

“Driven by this principle, our company cultures are uniquely matched in our dedication and passion for our students and the success they achieve on their educational journey.”

Amerigo Education and UTP were the 2020 co-winners for The PIEoneer Secondary Learning International Impact Award.
