Canadian college expands in response to labour market needs

Fanshawe College in London, Ontario, Canada, is responding to labour market needs through a new partnership with ILAC International College in downtown Toronto.

Commencing in May 2022, ILAC will offer four Fanshawe post-secondary programs to international students at its facilities located in downtown Toronto. Classes will be held in direct proximity to student placement and employment opportunities in the health care and hospitality industries – areas particularly hard hit by the pandemic. More programming and intakes will begin in September 2022.

“We look forward to broadening the reach of Fanshawe’s high-quality programs to students who will contribute to Ontario’s and Canada’s labour market,” Fanshawe president Peter Devlin said.

In response to labour market needs, Fanshawe is on track to achieve a 50% increase to international enrolments in 2025. Increased international enrolment continues to contribute to the province’s labour market gaps and strengthen the economy. It also contributes to the federal government’s plans to support economic recovery through immigration.

“Fanshawe is the gold standard in international education,” added Jonathan Kolber, CEO of ILAC.

“We intend to grow Fanshawe Toronto into a brand that employers come to first”

“Fanshawe’s leadership in student diversity and its student-first approach are strongly aligned with ILAC’s core values. We intend to grow Fanshawe Toronto into a brand that employers come to first for graduates looking for good jobs.”

Students will graduate with a Fanshawe College credential and can look forward to comparable student standards, services, accountability and quality assurance as at its other campuses.

All Fanshawe students are guaranteed at least one Signature Innovative Learning Experience before they graduate. Examples include working with external clients on research and presentations, student teams creating business proposals to address a global problem, and students from multiple programs working together on professional projects.

Fanshawe’s reputed English Language Institute has launched an enhanced career-focused English for Academic Purposes program based on the evolving labour market. This focus better prepares students for success in their post-secondary programs and future careers with assignments researching Canadian labour market trends, mock job interviews and learning relevant vocabulary about the careers they are seeking.

Fanshawe College is hosting an online information session about the new Toronto campus and the programs being offered on Tuesday, December 14, starting at 9:00 a.m. EST. The registration link for the event is here. After registration, you will receive an email with the link to the session. If you have any questions, please email [email protected] .
