Ireland: Atlas to open new school in Malta

Dublin-based language school Atlas has announced it will open a new operation in Malta to give students the choice of two unique cultures as the backdrop to their English studies.

“Malta is known as an idyllic place to study”

Located in the seaside town of St Julian’s, Atlas Malta boasts 12 classrooms, a library and self-study room, plus a large café and student recreation area for relaxing and socialising with friends.

As the school is just minutes from the beach, students can cool off after class in the crystal blue sea that Malta is famous for.

Director and co-founder of Atlas, Alan Brennan, said: “We are delighted to be expanding into the Maltese market. With year-round sun, Malta is known as an idyllic place to study and we are really excited about combining this with the high-end teaching and services that we have built our reputation on.

“We feel that our new school will be an excellent destination for learners looking for a high-quality language learning experience on the island.”

International students have increasingly looked to Malta for language learning opportunities in recent times.

Earlier this year, Malta’s National Statistics Office revealed  87,000 international students attended ELT schools in the country in 2017, an increase of 13.6% on 2016 figures.

General English proved to be the most popular course offered, with a total of 62,317 students (71.5%) opting to study it, followed by Intensive English.

CEO of FELTOM James Perry told The PIE News that he sees the increase in ELT student numbers as a result of several factors.

“Students coming to Malta are realising that there is a high quality of English teaching on our island accompanied with the sun and the safety of the place,” he said.

“Also schools are advertising more, thus reaching a wider clientele, and there is better connectivity to Malta from various airlines.”

Atlas Malta is expected to begin operating from October 2018.
