British Council launches fifth alumni awards

Published 04/09/2018

The British Council has announced its fifth Study UK Alumni Awards, which seek to honour outstanding achievements of the country’s international alumni.

The awards, open to any international alumni of a British university living outside the UK, showcase the impact and value of completing higher education in the country. They also aim to raise the international profile of UK alumni and their former universities.

“Finalists… will benefit from a raised profile internationally, and inspire others with their stories”

“Entering the Alumni Awards is a fantastic opportunity for graduates of UK universities who are now using their UK education to do amazing things around the world,” said Bryony Inge, Alumni Campaign manager at the British Council.

“Finalists of the awards will benefit from a raised profile internationally and inspire others with their stories through global media coverage.

“The three global award winners will build their skills and capacity through a return visit to the UK, enhancing their professional networks and re-connecting with their former UK universities.”

Previous winner of the Alumni Award winner Pakistan and Regional Award winner South Asia – Entrepreneurial Award 2018, Muhammad Uzair, said winning the award set up a path to further opportunities.

“Winning the Alumni Award opened up more opportunities for me and has been a wonderful experience,” he said.

Award winners and finalists are leaders in their fields who have used their experience of studying at a UK university to make a positive contribution to their communities, industries and countries.

Three international alumni of UK universities who won global awards at British Council’s fourth Study UK Alumni Awards in 2018, were from Sri Lanka, Colombia and the Philippines.

Nominations for the Study UK Alumni Awards 2018 open September 4 and close on October 28, with the final date to complete applications on November 11.

To be eligible, applicants must have studied for a minimum of a term or semester, or have been awarded a full UK degree level qualification (or higher), by a UK university through a local institution overseas, within the last 15 years.

Finalists for the awards will be announced in January 2019, and the British Ambassador or High Commissioner generally hosting national level award ceremonies.

In 2015, HRH Duke of Cambridge presented the Study UK Alumni Awards in China.
