International K-12 operator in China, Bright Scholar Education has signed a partnership with Beijing Normal University to establish a school to provide international education training for teachers.

The agreement will establish the Huiyan International Education College and will open in 2019.

The Huiyan International Education College will develop international curricula and operating systems with Chinese characteristics.

Currently, Bright Scholar Education’s international and bilingual schools teach the International Baccalaureate, CIE programs authorised by Cambridge International Examinations, and A-Levels, among other options.

The company states that it provides quality international education to more than Chinese students and equipping them with the critical academic foundation and skillsets necessary to succeed in the pursuit of higher education overseas.

The college plans collaborate with leading overseas universities from the US and the UK in teachers’ training programs, according to the spokesperson.

Together, they will introduce renowned education institution brands and resources into China, offering degree programs of Bachelor, Master and PhD and establish a platform for recruiting global teaching talents.

Students from Huiyan International Education College will be able to gain work experience through internships at Bright’s 62 K-12 schools across eight provinces in China, the spokesperson added.

“We believe most of the students should come from the local [area] at the beginning stage.”

The funding for the school has come from China’s richest woman and youngest billionaire, Huiyan Yang. She is vice president of Country Garden Group and chairperson of Bright Scholar, and has donated RMB 80 million to the Beijing Normal University Education Fund to establish the school.

Huiyan International Education College will also establish an Outstanding Educator Award for academia with significant contributions to international education.
