ApplyBoard hosts Canada’s minister of Immigration

Ontario-based AI-enabled student marketplace ApplyBoard has hosted Canada’s minister of Immigration Ahmed Hussen and member of Parliament Kitchener, Raj Saini, at its head office to open a discussion around how to make education more accessible to students everywhere.

Part of ApplyBoard’s success is seen in gaining the support of the Canadian government, who can make real changes in the way the country facilitates the integration of newcomers and students who wish to establish their place in Canadian communities.

“ApplyBoard is a shining example of why our diversity is working out”

In July 2018, the business raised CAD$17 million Series A funding, led by Silicon Valley-based Artiman Ventures to boost its mission.

Speaking to the ApplyBoard team, Hussen said that since his election, he has connected with many individuals and companies who hold a similar vision as ApplyBoard to learn about the challenges Canada faces in attracting talent.

We embrace diversity as a strength,” the minister said.

“If you look at this room, you’re struck by one thing about how Canada is a welcoming country and how we value diversity. These factors are why we have successful businesses like this one.”

Through the introduction of the Global Skills Visa, ApplyBoard had the ability to hire two international employees, while its founders gained permanent residency and the opportunity to build the company through the Startup Visa.

“We are proud to be a Canadian company and to have such wonderful leadership who work to diminish the challenges we face,” added Martin Basiri, CEO of ApplyBoard.
