In order to help students take more home comforts when they study overseas, Virgin Atlantic have announced a deal to increase the baggage weight allowance of international students.

The offer, which has been extended to Indian and Chinese students travelling to study abroad in the UK and the US, allows 69kg of checked baggage in economy class (3 x 23kg) – one extra suitcase more than other economy passengers.

Passengers can also take on 10kg of cabin baggage, and one piece of sports equipment for free.

“We are pleased to offer students flying to the UK and US a generous baggage allowance and free date change”

The new offer will also give Indian and Chinese students one free date change of their flights, should they need to reschedule plans while they are studying abroad.

“We are pleased to offer students flying to the UK and US a generous baggage allowance and free date change to ensure they can carry their home comforts while studying abroad,” Nick Parker, head of India and Middle East at Virgin Atlantic Airways.

The offer was extended following a recent student survey conducted by the airline, which found that if given extra baggage, 35% would pack more food items.

The survey also found that 40% of students who book their flights in advance usually change their date of travel.
